Sean Penn recently responded to Madonna’s comments in her 1991 documentary Madonna: Truth Or Dare, where she called him the “love of her life.” The two were married from 1985 to 1989 and also starred together in the 1986 movie Shanghai Surprise. After their divorce, they stayed friends. On The Louis Theroux Podcast on May 12, Penn was asked about what Madonna said. He said he remembered it and thought it was “very sweet” of her. However, he admitted that they quickly realized they weren’t meant to be married, even though they had a good connection at first. He said it only took about a year after their divorce to become friends again, and he has many good memories from their time together.
In other news, Madonna is reportedly working on a Netflix series about her life with director Shawn Levy, who worked on Deadpool and Wolverine. The series is in early development, but it’s unclear how much Madonna will be involved. The show seems to be separate from her biopic, which she’s been working on for Universal.
Sean Penn has also criticized Donald Trump, saying Trump lacks “intelligence” and only cares about “destroying things and people.” Additionally, Penn will star in a new thriller directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, based on Thomas Pynchon’s novel Vineland. The movie, which also stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Benicio Del Toro, Regina Hall, and Teyana Taylor, is set to be released on September 26.
