Royal Experts Assess Palace Strategy After Andrew Arrest
Senior royals have continued a run of high-profile public appearances in the days following the arrest of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, as commentators assess how the palace is handling a growing crisis around the King’s younger brother. The engagements came as scrutiny intensified over the allegations and the police investigation.
Hello Magazine reported that King Charles carried out a front-row appearance at London Fashion Week just hours after Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s arrest, while Queen Camilla and Princess Anne also undertook scheduled engagements and the Princess of Wales attended consecutive appearances at Twickenham and the BAFTAs alongside Prince William.
In the same report, royal expert Phil Dampier said the succession of outings “helped project the image of business as normal”, adding that the “never complain, never explain” approach has shifted because the family cannot simply “bury their heads in the sand” during an active police investigation. The piece also quoted brand and culture expert Nick Ede, who suggested the royal schedule would have been planned carefully with attention on the UK.
The King’s response has also been shaped by the legal process, with Charles issuing a statement saying he had learned with the “deepest concern” of his brother’s arrest and that “the law must take its course”, a message that aligns with his earlier public statement following the development.
With police searches and inquiries continuing, the royal household is expected to maintain its public programme while limiting comment, leaving the next phase of the story to be driven by investigators and any subsequent decisions taken by ministers and parliament.
