A former royal photographer has claimed there’s tension behind the scenes between Queen Camilla and Prince William. Ian Pelham Turner told The Mirror that Camilla believes William is trying to cause problems and has urged King Charles to put a stop to it. He suggested that William has been acting as if he’s the driving force behind the monarchy, while Camilla feels Charles should hold that position.
Prince William and Camilla have had a strained relationship for years. In 2023, royal expert Christopher Andersen told Us Weekly that William merely “tolerates” Camilla and that she has always been “a little afraid” of him, even needing a drink to steady her nerves after their first meeting.
Over time, William is said to have warmed up to Camilla, with a family friend noting they now have more of a familial relationship. However, there’s still history to overcome. William and Prince Harry long resented Camilla because of their loyalty to their mother, Princess Diana, and they were wary of her after believing she leaked stories to the press to improve her public image.
Interestingly, the family rift with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle is said to have brought William and Camilla closer. The same friend explained that William and Kate Middleton try to avoid more drama within the family, and Kate’s respectful and kind approach toward Camilla helped improve William’s relationship with his stepmother.
