Former Verve frontman Richard Ashcroft recently took to social media to respond to an Oasis fan who didn’t recognize the band’s iconic song “Bitter Sweet Symphony.”
The incident unfolded on Friday, July 4th, in Cardiff, Wales, as Ashcroft opened for Oasis.
One person wrote via X, with the now-viral clip, “Richard Ashcroft performs Bittersweet Symphony ahead of the Oasis gig, and this melon is on Shazam trying to find out what it’s called.”
The video showed a young woman in the audience bopping along to The Verve’s 1997 hit while looking up the famous tune on the song-identifier app.
Ashcroft then took to Instagram to “welcome” the Oasis fan in question to his and The Verve’s music.
“Day 2 thanks to everyone who came down and gave such beautiful support for my set. If you don’t know it Shazam it, all new fans welcome!” Love to [Liam Gallagher] for Cast No Shadow, what a tune! We move on Manchester. Are you ready? Music is Power RA”
