Radiohead’s second night at the Uber Arena in Berlin on December 9 delivered not just a sprawling 25-song setlist but also an unplanned moment of on-stage levity when frontman Thom Yorke playfully teased guitarist Jonny Greenwood following a false start during “Airbag.”
The band, performing on the first leg of their first European tour in more than seven years, kicked off the Berlin date with “2 + 2 = 5,” followed by “Airbag,” one of the standout tracks from their critically acclaimed 1997 album OK Computer. During the opening chord sequence of Airbag, the performance didn’t quite land as expected, prompting a brief false start that fans noted.
The rest of the Berlin setlist included fan favorites such as Jigsaw Falling Into Place, Reckoner, No Surprises and Paranoid Android, underscoring Radiohead’s deep catalogue and the tour’s mix of deep cuts and iconic hits.
Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke has been battling an “extreme throat infection” and the band had postponed two planned performances in Copenhagen on their European tour.
The band was set to perform at the Royal Arena in the Danish capital on December 1st and 2nd but those shows are now set for December 15th and 16th.
In a statement Radiohead said, “We are devastated to have to postpone these two shows at such short notice but Thom has been diagnosed with an extreme throat infection which has made it impossible for him to sing.
“We have been so blown away by the audience reactions on these dates and are loving being back on stage again; needless to say, we feel terrible that we have been forced to postpone these shows.”
This tour is the band’s first since 2018. It kicked off with four nights at Madrid’s Movistar Arena, selling 68,737 tickets and grossing a total of more than $12.2 million, according to Pollstar Boxoffice reports.
