Queen Camilla gave a simple and honest update about King Charles’ health while they were visiting Italy. Even though he’s still getting treatment for cancer, she said he loves his work so much that it helps him feel better and keeps him going.
“He really enjoys working, and that’s what drives him,” Camilla said. “Now that he’s feeling better, he wants to do more and more. That’s the problem.” When someone suggested he should slow down, she jokingly replied, “Dream on.”
The King and Queen visited Italy from April 7 to April 10. They had a busy schedule with 20 events and even celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary during the trip. One highlight was meeting Pope Francis, which palace sources said was a very special moment for them.
Just over a week before the trip, King Charles had to go to the hospital because of a reaction to his cancer treatment. He had to cancel some plans, but he quickly got back to work by April 1. A palace source said it was just a small setback and that his recovery is going well.
Camilla told PEOPLE magazine that they were having a “wonderful visit” in Italy. When asked if he was enjoying the trip, the King smiled and said, “Yes, thank you, very much.”
After leaving Italy, they continued their anniversary celebrations in Scotland on April 13. They went to a church service at Crathie Kirk near Balmoral Castle and listened to special music made for their anniversary.
