Princess Kate Returns to BAFTAs With William
Princess Kate returned to the EE BAFTA Film Awards on Sunday evening, stepping onto the red carpet at London’s Royal Festival Hall alongside Prince William for the first time in three years. The appearance marked a high-profile moment for the Princess of Wales, who has been absent from the ceremony in recent years while undergoing and recovering from cancer treatment.
At the 79th British Academy Film Awards, Hello Magazine reported that Princess Kate wore a blush pink and white Gucci gown she previously debuted in public in 2019 at a V&A Museum gala dinner, while Prince William coordinated in a maroon jacket.
The couple arrived shortly before 4.30pm, with security briefly locking down the red carpet ahead of their entrance. Prince William attended in his role as President of BAFTA and was due to present the BAFTA Fellowship Award, the Academy’s highest honour, during the ceremony.
Their joint appearance came during a turbulent week for the wider royal family, after the arrest of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor for misconduct in public office, with the Waleses presenting a united front as they greeted well-wishers; Britpop News has previously reported on the fallout in Prince William & Kate Support Charles After Andrew Arrest.
BAFTA said winners across the nominated films would be announced later in the evening at a ceremony hosted by Scottish actor and presenter Mr Alan Cumming, with the event broadcast on BBC One and BBC iPlayer. For the Prince and Princess of Wales, the return to the awards underscored a resumption of public-facing duties at one of the UK’s biggest cultural nights.
