Princess Kate Goes Barefoot During Leicester Visit
Princess Kate created an unexpected moment during a royal visit to Leicester on Thursday when she removed her high heels before entering a Hindu temple, later joining worshippers in a traditional dance as part of the day’s engagements.
During her visit to the Shreeji Dham Haveli Hindu Temple, Hello Magazine reported that the Princess of Wales took off her Gianvito Rossi pumps as a sign of respect and joined a women-only group performing the garba dance after being garlanded with flowers and given a bindi.
The 44-year-old royal was described as known for wearing high heels at official events, but made what was characterised as a rare exception, appearing to go barefoot in nude tights as she took part in the circle dance in front of a statue of Lord Krishna.
The visit formed part of a wider away day in the city, and follows other recent public appearances in which she has spoken about family life, including a moment when she left Prince William blushing with a surprise remark during an engagement.
At the temple, executive committee member Mr Mayur Kachela hosted the visit and was quoted describing her participation as “absolutely amazing”, saying it mattered to see “somebody of such importance and significance” come to understand and acknowledge different faiths and cultures. The Princess also toured Leicester’s Golden Mile and later visited choreographer Mr Aakash Odedra’s dance company, where she was reported to have said: “My children would love it, they love their dance.”
