Princess Anne ‘often skips lunch’ in habit shared with King Charles, Hello reports
Princess Anne is said to share an unusual midday routine with her brother King Charles III, with both royals reportedly known for skipping lunch. The detail has resurfaced in fresh reporting about the Princess Royal’s eating habits, highlighting a long-standing family approach to mealtimes as public interest continues in the royals’ daily routines.
Hello Magazine reported that chef Mr Michael Mercer, who has previously cooked for Princess Anne, once prepared a full banquet for her only for the royal to sip a cup of Earl Grey tea before thanking him and leaving, with her security team later eating the food.
The chef, speaking to the magazine, described the episode as an example of the 75-year-old’s “unusual approach” to mealtimes. Hello also noted Princess Anne’s reported preferences for foods including kippers, overripe bananas and tinned meat pies, in a portrait of her pared-back dietary choices.
The piece also revisited a Clarence House fact sheet released for King Charles’s 70th birthday in 2018, which stated: “The Prince does not eat lunch.” It added that more recent reports suggest the King has since begun taking lunch on advice from those close to him and medical professionals, and that he is now said to have half an avocado as his midday meal.
The latest account adds to wider fascination with the Royal Family’s private routines, from food preferences to working schedules, and comes as both King Charles and Princess Anne continue to carry out public duties across the UK and overseas.
