Prince William’s role as Prince of Wales comes with major financial responsibility and support, mainly through the Duchy of Cornwall.
In June 2025, reports showed that Prince William received about $30 million from the Duchy of Cornwall for his second year in the role. This money is not a personal salary but is used to cover official duties, charitable work, and family expenses for William, Kate Middleton, and their three children.
The Duchy of Cornwall is a historic estate created in 1337 to financially support the heir to the British throne. It includes more than 130,000 acres of land across England and Wales, with farms, homes, and commercial properties. The estate is valued at over $1 billion and generates income each year to fund the Prince of Wales’ work.
Prince William became Duke of Cornwall in 2022 when King Charles became monarch. Since then, he has taken an active role in managing the estate, visiting projects and focusing on long-term goals like sustainability and housing.
William pays income tax on the money he receives after household costs are deducted, although the exact expenses are not publicly listed. Beyond finances, he has taken on new royal patronages and leadership roles, including at the Football Association.
Looking ahead, the Duchy plans to become a net-zero estate by 2032, reflecting William’s focus on environmental responsibility.
