Prince William reportedly wanted to reduce his royal duties in 2024, but King Charles asked him to reconsider, according to a new book by biographer Robert Jobson. The book says William was deeply affected when both his father and his wife, Kate Middleton, were diagnosed with cancer. Even so, Charles did not approve his request to slow down.
William and Kate both became more religious during this difficult time. William also took on more responsibilities while supporting his family and caring for their three children. Royal experts said the year was extremely stressful for him, and the pressure of balancing family and royal duties took a toll.
The book also explains that King Charles had been experiencing pain for some time before doctors discovered his cancer while treating him for an enlarged prostate. A few months later, Kate also revealed her cancer diagnosis, which was a major emotional blow for William.
Experts say William wanted to reduce public engagements mainly to support Kate and be more present for his children. They also noted that although William and Charles respect each other, both can be tough and quick-tempered, which sometimes causes tension.
Kate announced she finished chemotherapy in September 2024 and later shared that she is now in remission. Meanwhile, Charles has slowed down slightly, taking naps and eating more regularly while still undergoing treatment.
