A royal biographer claims Prince William quickly figured out Meghan Markle’s supposed plan to become rich and famous by marrying his younger brother, Prince Harry.
After Lady Elizabeth Anson, a close cousin and friend of Queen Elizabeth II, said the late Queen was worried about Meghan’s intentions, royal reporter Phil Dampier told The Sun he believes William also had doubts about Meghan joining the royal family.
“I think this sadly proves what I’ve been saying for years Meghan probably never planned to stay in the royal family,” Dampier said, referring to Anson’s comments.
He claimed Meghan saw marrying Harry as a way to gain more fame and money, and that’s what first worried William. According to Dampier, this concern caused a rift between the brothers.
“To hear this confirmed by someone so close to the Queen is huge,” he added.
However, a source pushed back, telling Page Six, “Mr. Dampier’s opinions are just that — opinions. They aren’t based on facts. There’s no way he or The Sun could truly know Meghan’s intentions.”
Harry, 40, has had a rocky relationship with William, 43, and their father, King Charles III, since he and Meghan stepped down as senior royals in 2020 and moved to North America.
Things got worse when Harry and Meghan accused the royal family of racism in interviews and released a Netflix series about their struggles. In 2023, Harry also published his memoir, Spare, in which he claimed William physically attacked him over Meghan. Despite all this, Harry said in May he still wants to make peace with his family.
“There have been so many disagreements and differences between me and my family,” he told BBC News, explaining that issues around security were the main sticking point. Harry lost his publicly funded security after leaving royal duties.
He admitted some family members might never forgive him for certain things. Still, he said he hopes for reconciliation because “there’s no point in continuing to fight.”
