Book claims William clashed with Charles over Andrew
Prince William is said to have urged tougher action against Prince Andrew and challenged King Charles over how the Royal Family handled the scandal, according to a new extract from a forthcoming biography. The claims, reported on Friday, describe years of internal tensions over the Duke of York’s future role and the impact of repeated revelations linked to Jeffrey Epstein.
The Mirror reported that royal editor Mr Russell Myers’ book alleges Prince William and Princess Catherine were angered by Prince Andrew’s failure to apologise for his connection to Epstein or acknowledge victims, and were “wholly aligned” in believing he should be removed from the family’s public picture.
The extract says William’s negative view of his uncle pre-dated the 2019 Newsnight interview, and claims he objected to the way Andrew behaved with staff. It also alleges William spoke to his father after the interview to press for immediate action, and that he later opposed King Charles’s decision to invite Andrew and Sarah Ferguson to Sandringham at Christmas in 2023.
The report adds that William was described as being “very much put in his place during an Andrew dispute” when he raised objections, before continuing to push for Andrew to be stripped of remaining titles amid further scrutiny in 2024.
Mr Myers’ book, titled William & Catherine: The Intimate Inside Story, is scheduled for publication on 26 February, and the fresh claims are expected to intensify scrutiny of how the monarchy manages Andrew’s continued association with the family.
