The Prince of Wales is set to represent the King at the COP30 climate summit in Brazil next month, as announced by Kensington Palace via BBC.
On Thursday evening, Prince William and King Charles made a joint appearance at a reception at the Natural History Museum, which was organized ahead of the environmental conference set to take place in Belém, a city in northern Brazil.
This gathering was co-hosted by the UK government. King Charles has long been an advocate for nature conservation, and Prince William is following in his footsteps with his own initiative, the Earthshot Awards, which will also take place in Brazil prior to the COP summit.
The King and Prince William arrived together in the state Bentley and were introduced to various guests, including environmentalists, scientists, climate change campaigners, diplomats, and politicians.
Ed Miliband, Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change had greeted Prince William when he arrived at the museum. Former PM Theresa May spoke to the King about COP summits.
Royal sources have described Prince William’s attendance at the next COP as stepping up to play an important role in “climate diplomacy”.
Earlier this year, I had the opportunity to speak alongside President Emmanuel Macron of France and other world leaders at the Blue Economy and Finance Forum held in Monaco.
The COP30 summit will coincide with the prince’s own Earthshot Environmental Awards, which will conclude in Rio de Janeiro the day before he attends the COP summit on November 6th.
