Prince William has reportedly mapped out a firm plan for how he intends to deal with Prince Andrew once he becomes king. The Prince of Wales, 43, is said to be determined to hold his uncle accountable for the scandals that damaged the monarchy’s reputation and to take a tougher stance than King Charles.
According to insiders, William wants to strengthen the monarchy’s public image by distancing it from controversy. This could include pushing Parliament to strip Andrew of his dukedom and even removing his HRH status through letters patent. While prince and princess titles can also be revoked by Royal Warrant, experts believe that route would face resistance as it might be viewed as a personal matter.
Reports suggest that William and Andrew fell out after Andrew allegedly made unkind remarks about Catherine, Princess of Wales, which fueled tension between them. Royal author Andrew Lownie has said that Andrew’s bitterness partly stems from jealousy, as Catherine rose to prominence after Queen Elizabeth II’s death.
Lownie also noted that Andrew has been living as if retired, with his loss of royal titles being what affected him most. He argued that Andrew’s identity was deeply tied to his former royal status, uniforms, and public role, all of which were stripped away following multiple scandals including his connection to Jeffrey Epstein, the Virginia Giuffre lawsuit, and ties to an alleged Chinese spy.
As it stands, Andrew continues to live at Royal Lodge with Sarah Ferguson, but sources believe William will eventually push for their eviction once he takes the throne.
