Prince William reportedly became extremely upset after hearing serious allegations that Meghan Markle mistreated staff at Kensington Palace, leading to a major rift between him and Prince Harry.
These claims, revealed in Robert Lacey’s book Battle of Brothers, suggest Meghan was difficult to work with as early as 2017. A palace insider said Meghan often sent emails to staff starting at 5 a.m., creating stress and a “toxic environment.” Some staff reportedly felt so anxious they were physically shaken before meetings with her, and one even developed PTSD.
Despite concerns raised by a senior aide, Meghan allegedly brushed off the complaints, saying it wasn’t her job to comfort others. When Jason Knauf, a royal aide, gave Prince William a detailed report of staff complaints, William was shocked and angry. He was especially upset because the royal family has a long-standing tradition of treating staff “like family.”
This led to a heated phone call between William and Harry, with Harry defending Meghan fiercely. William stood by the staff, deepening the already strained relationship between the brothers. Their bond had been rocky for years, with tensions worsening after Harry and Meghan stepped down from royal duties in 2020.
Their last public appearance together was at Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral in 2022. Though they were both at a private event in 2023, the emotional distance between them remains evident.
