Book Alleges William Urged Andrew’s Banishment
Prince William urged swift action against Prince Andrew after the Duke of York’s BBC Newsnight interview, according to claims in a new book serialised in the press. The report says the Prince of Wales feared reputational damage to the monarchy and challenged his father, then Prince Charles, about how the family should respond.
KentLive reported that the biography “William and Catherine: The Intimate Inside Story” alleges William believed Andrew should be left to deal with the fallout “away from the family”, and later described his uncle’s presence as “a stain on all the family” as fresh allegations continued to surface.
The report says the book claims William confronted King Charles over Andrew’s inclusion at Sandringham Christmas when Sarah, Duchess of York, joined the royals for the church walk, with a source describing William as being “put in his place”. It also alleges William wanted Andrew stripped of titles and fully banished from family events, arguing there was “absolutely no upside” in shielding him.
The claims echo earlier coverage that Prince William reportedly pressed King Charles to act against Prince Andrew as the Royal Family sought to contain the ongoing fallout from the scandal and repeated public scrutiny of Andrew’s status.
Prince Andrew stepped back from public duties in 2019 and has repeatedly denied wrongdoing. The book, due for publication on February 26, is expected to prompt further discussion about how the Royal Family handled the crisis and what role, if any, Andrew will have at private gatherings in future.
