Report Claims Prince Philip Wanted Andrew ‘Banished’
A fresh report has claimed Prince Philip considered Prince Andrew “different” from other members of the Royal Family and privately viewed him as a risk to the monarchy, according to an article published by Yahoo Entertainment on Friday. The piece attributes the claims to an unnamed “royal source” quoted by Radar Online.
In the report, Yahoo Entertainment stated that the source alleged the late Duke of Edinburgh saw Andrew as a “loose cannon” and “a huge threat to the legacy of the crown,” and had wanted him “banish[ed]” from palace life.
The article also quoted the same source as claiming Philip believed Andrew did not take his royal role seriously and “treated everything like a joke,” and that he was “gullible and easily led,” which was said to contribute to his association with “the wrong company.” The report further claimed that Philip had warned the late Queen Elizabeth II, but that she did not take firm action until after his death in April 2021.
The Yahoo Entertainment piece recapped that Prince Andrew lost his honorary military appointments and royal patronages in January 2022, and included claims that he was later stripped of remaining styles and titles in 2025. The Duke’s position in the family has continued to draw scrutiny, and Britpop News has previously reported that Kate Middleton reportedly took a firm stance on Prince Andrew fallout as the senior royals sought to protect the institution.
No palace comment was cited in the article. The latest claims underline how discussion around Andrew’s standing continues to be driven by anonymous sourcing, even as the Royal Family maintains a limited public approach to the issue.
