CHP denies Britney Spears led police chase
California Highway Patrol officials have denied online claims that Britney Spears led officers on a prolonged pursuit before her recent DUI arrest in Ventura County. The pop star, 44, was pulled over earlier this week and detained on suspicion of driving under the influence, with the latest clarification aimed at correcting what authorities say is a false narrative circulating on social media.
CHP Lt. Matt Gutierrez said there was “zero chase” and that Spears pulled over immediately when an officer stopped her, TMZ reported.
The report said the rumour appeared to stem from police dispatch audio in which the first call about a car allegedly swerving came in around 8.13pm, with the stop occurring about an hour later. Lt. Gutierrez told TMZ that the time gap does not indicate a pursuit, but likely reflects multiple drivers reporting the vehicle and an officer later locating it in the area.
Spears’ arrest has generated intense scrutiny, and the clarification follows wider discussion about her post-conservatorship life, including a recent Britpop News report that Sam Asghari called for privacy after her DUI.
TMZ also reiterated earlier reporting that Spears was taken to hospital for a blood draw for toxicology testing before being released. The outlet said pills believed to be Adderall were found in the car, and quoted a statement from Spears’ manager, Mr Cade Hudson, calling the incident “unfortunate and inexcusable” while saying her loved ones were “putting a plan in place” to support her.
