Newly released material tied to the Jeffrey Epstein investigation has intensified scrutiny surrounding Prince Andrew, after U.S. authorities published a photograph that reportedly shows a man resembling the Duke of York sitting with a young woman on his lap.
The image was included in documents released by the United States Department of Justice as part of the ongoing disclosure of files connected to Epstein’s activities. According to reporting from The Telegraph, the photograph was taken inside Epstein’s apartment and shows a man who appears to closely resemble Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor.
Authorities have not publicly confirmed the identity of the man in the photograph. However, the image has already triggered renewed debate surrounding the former royal’s long-criticized friendship with Epstein.
The publication of the photograph comes at a time when Andrew is already under intense scrutiny across the Commonwealth. Several governments — including Canada, Australia and New Zealand — have recently indicated they would support moves to remove him from the line of succession if the United Kingdom proposes it.
Andrew stepped back from royal duties in 2019 following widespread criticism of his association with Epstein. In 2022 he also reached a civil settlement with Virginia Giuffre, who accused him of sexual assault when she was a minor — allegations he has consistently denied.
The new documents do not constitute criminal charges, but the image’s release has added fresh pressure on the monarchy and renewed calls for transparency about what senior members of the royal family knew regarding Epstein’s network.
With investigations and document releases continuing in the United States, the controversy surrounding Andrew appears far from over.
