Royal Experts Say Firm Projects ‘Business as Usual’
Senior royals carried out a string of public engagements in the days after Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s arrest, as commentators assessed how the Palace is managing the fallout from what has been described as a major reputational challenge for the monarchy. The analysis comes amid an ongoing police investigation and heightened scrutiny of how the Royal Family responds publicly during sensitive legal proceedings.
Hello Magazine reported that King Charles appeared at London Fashion Week just hours after his brother’s arrest, while Queen Camilla attended an arts engagement in Westminster and Princess Anne carried out a series of events in South Yorkshire.
In the same report, royal expert Mr Phil Dampier told the publication that the high-profile outings “helped project the image of business as normal”, adding that the Royal Family can no longer rely solely on the traditional “never complain, never explain” approach during moments of turmoil. The piece also cited a statement issued by the King saying he had learned with the “deepest concern” of his brother’s arrest and that “the law must take its course”.
Brand and culture commentator Mr Nick Ede also told the magazine that public appearances are typically planned carefully, and suggested the Prince and Princess of Wales would continue to show up for major cultural moments; Britpop News has separately tracked the developing response, including when King Charles issued a statement days after the arrest as the investigation continued.
The case remains under investigation, and experts noted the Royal Family’s public messaging is likely to be constrained while police inquiries continue, with further steps expected to depend on legal developments and the wider political response.
