The story of Mark McLeod, a man who stalked Miley Cyrus when she was just 16 years old, is being told again in a new TV show called Hollywood Demons on Investigation Discovery. His sister, Larilyn Adair, is speaking out to help people understand how someone can become obsessed like he did.
Back in 2009, McLeod was arrested after he followed Miley to the set of her movie The Last Song in Georgia. He told police they were “meant to be together.” He was charged with attempted stalking, but that charge was dropped. He still got two years of probation, had to get a mental health check, and was told to stay away from Miley and her family.
His sister said it all started when McLeod asked for their mom’s diamond ring. He told her he was getting married , but then she found out he meant Miley Cyrus. He believed he had been talking to her in an online fan chatroom, even though it wasn’t really her.
McLeod went to several of Miley’s concerts and tried to get close to her. At one show, he even tried to get on her tour bus and was kicked out by security. He later said that Billy Ray Cyrus, Miley’s dad, shook his hand and told him he was “the good man they had been praying for” — though this was clearly not true.
He also showed up at a book signing in New York, brought her flowers, and asked her to marry him before being removed again by security. In an interview, he said he had been watching everything Miley did and believed they would always be together.
