Paris Jackson has spoken out for the first time about the upcoming Michael Jackson biopic, raising concerns over its accuracy and making it clear she does not want to be involved.
In a video shared on Instagram, Jackson explained that she chose to step back from the project because it was not hers to control. She said the filmmakers would tell the story they wanted, but she felt much of it catered to a certain segment of her father’s fanbase that prefers a fantasy version of events. According to her, the film includes inaccuracies and outright lies, which she cannot support.
Jackson also responded directly to claims made by actor Colman Domingo, who plays Joe Jackson in the film. She clarified that while she did provide notes on an early script draft, her input was ignored, and she had no ongoing role in the project. In her words, she spoke up, was not listened to, and then stepped away.
“So I just butted out and left it alone because it’s not my project,” she said. “They’re going to make whatever they’re going to make. A big reason why I haven’t said anything up until this point is because I know a lot of you guys are gonna be happy with it.”
A big section of the film panders to a very specific section of my dad’s fandom that still lives in the fantasy, and they’re gonna be happy with it,” she continued. “The narrative is being controlled and there’s a lot of inaccuracy and there’s a lot of just full-blown lies. At the end of the day, that doesn’t really fly with me. Go enjoy it. Do whatever. Leave me out of it.”
Directed by Antoine Fuqua and starring Jaafar Jackson as Michael Jackson, the biopic has been in development for years and is scheduled for release in April 2026. Reports suggest it may even be split into two films to cover the King of Pop’s life and career. The cast includes Nia Long and Miles Teller, though details about their roles remain under wraps.
