Meghan Markle’s Suits role ‘raised concerns’, report says
Meghan Markle’s past acting work on US legal drama Suits reportedly prompted concern within royal circles as she prepared to join the Royal Family, according to comments attributed to a former colleague’s family member.
Express.co.uk reported that Ms Eliza Roberts, wife of actor Mr Eric Roberts, previously described Meghan’s role as “very sexy” and suggested it was “tricky because of the monarchy” given the show’s romantic scenes.
Meghan played paralegal Rachel Zane on Suits from 2011 to 2017, leaving the series shortly before she married Prince Harry in 2018. In the remarks cited, Ms Roberts referenced the character’s relationship with actor Mr Patrick J. Adams’ character, adding: “Her making love with another man, that was just – they’ve never seen anything like that.” She also said Meghan “worked so hard to get there” and argued that women “don’t give up their jobs for a marriage anymore”.
The discussion of Meghan’s pre-royal career has resurfaced amid broader scrutiny of her public profile, with Britpop News recently reporting that a PR expert criticised Meghan Markle’s statement during a separate media debate.
The Express report also noted separate claims from US outlet Page Six that Meghan returned to acting last year in a project titled Close Personal Friends, in which she is said to appear as herself. Meghan and Prince Harry have not publicly responded to the comments quoted in the report.
