A clip of Meghan Markle’s mother, Doria Ragland, went viral on TikTok after she talked about a time a reporter offered her money for a story about Meghan. The moment was featured in the 2022 Netflix documentary Harry & Meghan.
Doria shared that a reporter once pulled up next to her and said she could earn a lot of money if she gave an interview. She replied, “This is my child. I have nothing to say.”
The clip also showed Meghan talking about the difference between how her mother’s side of the family and her father’s side reacted to media attention. Meghan said the British press seemed to want her mom’s side to cause drama, but her mom stayed quiet and classy. Meanwhile, her father’s side acted very differently.
The TikTok post was liked over 36,000 times and had more than 545,000 views. It praised Harry and Meghan for keeping only respectful people in their lives and setting strong boundaries.
Harry and Meghan have often spoken out against how the British media treats them, especially when it comes to race. The documentary also showed a 2017 Daily Mail article that described Meghan’s mom’s side of the family in a negative and classist way, referring to them as “dirty poor in the Deep South,” while pointing out that Meghan’s dad had a relative who worked as a maid at Windsor Castle.
