Meghan Markle praises Girl Scouts documentary ‘Cookie Queens’ as cast describe meeting the Duchess
Meghan Markle has been praised by participants in her new documentary project after making a surprise appearance at the Sundance Film Festival in Salt Lake City, Utah. The Duchess of Sussex attended the premiere of Cookie Queens, an Archewell Productions film following four Girl Scouts through the annual cookie-selling season, with cast members describing their behind-the-scenes encounters with her as the project launched at the festival.
The Mirror reported that Cookie Queens premiered this week at Sundance, with Meghan and Prince Harry serving as executive producers alongside director Ms Alysa Nahmia to spotlight the Girl Scouts and the pressures around the cookie-selling tradition.
One of the Girl Scouts featured in the film, Nikki B, told reporters she felt as if she was meeting “princesses and kings” when she learned she would meet the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, adding that she was “really excited” and “so stoked.” Another participant, Olive G, said it felt “crazy” that she had watched Meghan and Harry’s Netflix documentary at home and that they were now watching her in Cookie Queens.
Meghan’s appearance comes amid continued interest in the couple’s recent public engagements, including their Sundance debut at the ‘Cookie Queens’ premiere in Salt Lake City, as Archewell continues to back projects centred on social issues.
Speaking at the event, Meghan thanked audiences for attending and said she and her husband were “so proud and privileged” to support the film, describing it as “probably the cutest at the festival” while also calling it “one of the most powerful and meaningful depictions” of an American tradition. Ms Nahmia also highlighted the scale of the cookie business, describing it as a “crash course in capitalism for young people,” while questioning the pressures placed on the girls taking part.
