Prince Harry was once again missing from a big royal event, King Charles’ birthday celebration at Trooping the Colour. While the King stood with Queen Camilla, Prince William, Kate Middleton, and their children George, Charlotte, and Louis, Harry and his family were not there.
This shows how the gap between Harry and the royal family is still growing. Harry has said he wants to fix things with his family, but he doesn’t feel it’s safe to bring Meghan Markle and their kids, Archie and Lilibet, back to the UK.
In May, Harry lost a court case where he asked for full police protection like other working royals. Without that security, he said it’s not safe for his family to visit the UK.
Royal expert Duncan Larcombe explained that Meghan is scared to travel to the UK with their kids because of possible threats from crazy people, protesters, or even terrorists. “She would never risk her family’s safety,” he said.
Even though Meghan has been sharing more of her life in the U.S. like her dance video and family trip to Disneyland, she’s still afraid to visit the UK. A source said she’s feeling stronger now but still doesn’t want to put her kids in danger. “Harry misses his dad, especially after Trooping the Colour and Father’s Day,” the source said, “but the security issue is still a big problem.”
Harry recently said in a BBC interview that he wants to reconnect with his father and brother. He admitted, “There’s no point in fighting anymore,” and said he believes in forgiveness.
Experts believe Harry has regrets about how things turned out. “He’s an emotional person,” Larcombe said. “Even if he doesn’t say it, he probably wishes he’d done some things differently.”
Harry and Meghan are also still affected by the death of Princess Diana, Harry’s mother. Larcombe said that a lack of proper protection was one reason behind Diana’s tragic accident, and that fear still stays with Harry and Meghan.
Private security isn’t the same as official royal protection, which includes armed police and special intelligence. Experts say this difference could mean life or death in serious situations.
