Meghan Markle recently revealed that she had postpartum preeclampsia in the first episode of her new podcast and said: “It’s so rare and so scary” via Newsweek.
The Duchess of Sussex has launched Confessions of a Female Founder with an interview with Whitney Wolfe Herd, the founder of the dating app Bumble. In the interview, she opened up about her health battles.
“We both had very similar experiences—though we didn’t know each other at the time—with postpartum, and we both had preeclampsia,” Meghan said.
“Postpartum preeclampsia. It’s so rare and so scary.”
Herd replied: “Oh my God, can you believe we both had that? I mean life or death, truly.”
Meghan didn’t say whether she experienced postpartum preeclampsia in relation to Prince Archie’s birth or Princess Lilibet’s or both. However, Herd brought up the pressure Meghan was under after Archie’s birth, during her time as a working royal, when she was expected to do a post-birth photocall.
Prince Harry initially appeared solo to talk to the media about the arrival of their son before the trio posed as a family at Windsor Castle on May 8, 2019, after Archie’s birth on May 6th.
Meghan said on the podcast: “And you’re still trying to juggle all of these things and the world doesn’t know what’s happening quietly.
“And in the quiet you’re still just trying to show up for people and in the quiet you’re still just trying to show up mostly for your children. But those things are huge medical scares.”
Herd said: “I’ll never forget the image of you after you delivered Archie and the whole world was waiting for his debut, and I was either just becoming or just about to become a new mum, and I was like, ‘Oh my God, how is this woman doing this?’
“‘How is this woman putting on heels and going and debuting a child in this beautiful outfit in front of the entire world?’ Like, I could barely face a doorbell delivery for takeout food in a robe. I was like, ‘Please don’t look at me.'”
