Meghan Markle and Princess Kate both reportedly ended up in tears after an argument over bridesmaids’ dresses before Meghan’s wedding to Prince Harry. This new version of events comes from the book Yes, Ma’am: The Secret Life of Royal Servants by Tom Quinn, which offers a different perspective from Meghan’s previous statements.
Back in 2021, Meghan told Oprah Winfrey that the media wrongly claimed she had made Kate cry, when actually, she said it was Kate who made her cry. Meghan said Kate later apologized with flowers and a note, which Meghan appreciated. She stated that it had been a stressful week and that Kate had taken responsibility.
However, the new book quotes a royal staff member who claims that both women were emotional and upset after the disagreement. The source said that during discussions about the flower girl dresses, Meghan and Kate both said things they later regretted, and it ended with both of them crying.
Prince Harry also shared his side of the story in his memoir Spare. He described how Kate contacted Meghan days before the wedding, upset about her daughter Princess Charlotte’s dress being too big and not fitting properly. Meghan responded that a tailor was available to make adjustments, but Kate insisted all the dresses needed to be remade. The exchange reportedly left Meghan in tears, with Harry finding her sobbing on the floor when he came home.
Harry also described a later meeting between the couples where Kate admitted that the media stories were false and said, “I know, Meghan, that I was the one who made you cry.” Meghan appreciated the apology but wanted to understand why the story hadn’t been corrected in the press.
