King Charles Stops to Wait for Camilla
King Charles and Queen Camilla were filmed sharing a brief, unscripted moment during a reception at Windsor Castle, as the monarch paused mid-walk to check his wife was still alongside him.
During the event for VJ Day veterans in November, the King was seen moving through the castle corridors before stopping and turning back to make sure Queen Camilla was following, Hello Magazine reported.
The reception marked the 80th anniversary of VJ Day, honouring those who served in the Pacific during the Second World War. The Prince of Wales, the Duke of Edinburgh and the Duchess of Gloucester also attended, with Charles resuming his greetings once he had confirmed Camilla was close behind.
Royal fans reacted online to the clip, describing it as a relatable married-couple moment. Camilla has previously joked about the King’s brisk pace, telling BBC Radio 5 Live in 2020 that he “leaves everybody miles behind” and likening him to a “mountain goat”, while a comparison she accepted cast her as an “ancient silver swan”.
The moment comes as the 77-year-old monarch continues cancer treatment following his diagnosis in 2024, with recent public appearances maintaining a steady programme of engagements, including a speech in which he warned of rising global conflict.
While the clip was light-hearted, it offered a glimpse of the couple’s working rhythm during public duties, as they continue to carry out a busy schedule of royal events together.
