King Charles offers support for Andrew police probe
King Charles has said Buckingham Palace will support police if asked as Thames Valley Police assesses allegations involving his brother Prince Andrew and Jeffrey Epstein, escalating pressure on the Royal Family after a fresh tranche of claims emerged from the Epstein files.
In a statement issued on Sunday night, Hello Magazine reported that the King would “stand ready to support” Thames Valley Police should the force approach the Palace for assistance, while emphasising his “profound concern” about continuing allegations relating to Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor.
The statement added that while the “specific claims” are for Andrew to address, the Palace said the King’s “thoughts and sympathies” remain with victims of abuse. Thames Valley Police earlier confirmed it was assessing claims that Andrew shared secret reports from his role as a UK trade envoy with Epstein, the convicted sex offender.
The intervention comes as the monarchy faces renewed scrutiny over Andrew’s past associations and the fallout from the Epstein document releases, with Charles having been heckled in public over his brother’s links during recent engagements.
Andrew has repeatedly denied wrongdoing. The Palace statement follows a separate message from the Prince and Princess of Wales earlier in the day saying they were “deeply concerned” by continued revelations and that their thoughts remained with those affected by Epstein’s crimes.
