King Charles III shared a message about coming together, just days after Prince Harry gave an emotional interview about problems in their family.
A spokesperson for Buckingham Palace said on Sunday, May 4, that the royal family is “looking forward” to the week’s VE Day events. These events honor the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day , the end of World War II. The Palace said the family will join the country and the Commonwealth in remembering the people who fought in the war and gave so much.
The royal family appeared on the balcony of Buckingham Palace during a military parade in London on Monday, May 5. The Palace also said they hope nothing takes attention away from this important and meaningful anniversary.
This message came soon after Prince Harry, 40, said in a BBC interview on May 2 that King Charles, 76, “won’t speak to me.” He said, “I want to make peace with my family. There’s no reason to keep fighting. Life is short. I don’t know how much time my father has left.”
Harry’s interview followed a court loss in his effort to get government security while in the U.K. He and Meghan Markle lost that protection when they left their royal roles and moved to the U.S. in 2020.
Harry said, “My father could fix this if he wanted to , not by getting involved directly, but by letting the right people do their jobs.”
He also said he was sad about the outcome because now he doesn’t feel safe bringing his children, Archie, 5, and Lilibet, 3, to visit the U.K. “I love my country,” he said, “even though I’ve been treated badly by some people there.”
