Senior aides for King Charles III and Prince Harry recently met in London for what’s being called a secret “peace summit,” aimed at trying to heal the years-long rift between father and son.
The closed-door meeting was held last week at the Royal Over-Seas League, just a few minutes from Charles’s residence, Clarence House. It reportedly included at least three representatives from each side. Harry’s chief communications officer and household head, Meredith Maines, even flew in from California. The King’s communications secretary, Tobyn Andreae, was also there, showing that both sides were serious about talking things through.
Insiders say this is the strongest sign in years that both parties are open to fixing the fractured relationship. While there was no formal agenda, just some casual drinks, sources said there were definitely things both sides wanted to address.
The tension goes back to Harry and Meghan’s marriage, their move away from royal duties in 2020, and explosive interviews where Harry accused the royal family of racism and ignoring Meghan’s mental health struggles. His memoir Spare only deepened the divide by revealing more personal stories, including a physical fight with Prince William.
Despite all that, the recent talks suggest there might be hope. A source said a line of communication is now open for the first time in years, although there’s still a long way to go.
Harry has openly said he’d like to reconcile, admitting some family members may never forgive him for his book but that he still hopes for peace, especially since he’s worried about his father’s health. He also noted it’s hard to visit the UK without security for his family, a request that was recently denied.
