On April 9, Prince Harry attended the final day of court hearings about his appeal to get back his taxpayer-funded security in the U.K. But despite being in London, he didn’t meet with his father, King Charles—and there’s a key reason why.
According to royal expert Robert Hardman, King Charles is avoiding a meeting with Harry because of the legal case. He explained that it’s a tricky situation since Prince Harry is suing the government (King Charles’s ministers) in the King’s court. If they spoke and Harry later shared what was said, it could cause legal issues, even risking the whole case, since the King is seen as the source of justice in the U.K.
Hardman added that there might be personal reasons too. King Charles is undergoing medical treatment, and people around him are trying to minimize stress. For now, the King’s legal team has advised him not to talk with Harry until everything is resolved.
Prince Harry’s lawyer, Shaheed Fatima, told the court that Harry and Meghan felt forced to step away from royal duties because they didn’t feel properly protected. Fatima stressed that Harry’s safety is at risk and criticized the current security arrangements as being far worse than what he used to receive.
