Kim Kardashian says she staged a fake Britney Spears ‘visit’ to draw paparazzi attention
Kim Kardashian has revealed she once tried to generate publicity by making it appear she was visiting Britney Spears at a New York City hotel in the early 2000s. The reality star and businesswoman said the moment was part of her determination to become famous before her career took off.
During an appearance on a podcast hosted by her sister Khloé Kardashian, Page Six reported that Ms Kardashian described riding in a Rolls-Royce with friend Mr Jonathan Cheban before arriving at a hotel where photographers were waiting for Spears.
Ms Kardashian, now 45, said photographers shouted questions suggesting she was there to see the pop star, and that she and Mr Cheban went inside and waited in a phone booth for around 20 minutes because they did not know anyone at the hotel. She said the pair later left, with paparazzi asking how Spears was, and she claimed they had “scammed the system” by creating the impression of a celebrity visit.
The story adds another detail to the pair’s long-running links after being introduced through Paris Hilton, and it follows previous moments when Kardashian and Spears were pictured together years after first meeting.
Ms Kardashian’s comments underline how celebrity culture and paparazzi attention helped shape the early stages of her public profile, long before her later business ventures and television success.
