Kate Felt ‘Cheated’ During William Split
Princess Kate reportedly felt “cheated” and directionless during her 2007 split from Prince William, according to a new account that revisits the couple’s early relationship before their engagement and marriage. The claims centre on a period when the Prince of Wales was said to be unsure about committing as he navigated military life and expectations as a future monarch.
Marie Claire reported that royal expert Mr Russell Myers, writing in his book William and Catherine: The Monarchy’s New Era: The Inside Story, said Kate “presented William with a simple choice” and told friends she would not “wait around” if he could not commit. The piece quotes Myers as saying she spoke of “her lack of direction” and how she felt she had been “cheated by putting her life on hold for William”.
Myers also suggested the then 24-year-old Prince William struggled to process the breakup while working out his identity as a soldier and coping with the pressures attached to his future role. The account says Kate, although heartbroken, leaned on close school friends and threw herself into a busy social life while deciding to move forward if necessary.
The reflection on their early years follows continued interest in the couple’s partnership and public image, including previous discussion of how ‘normal’ William and Kate acted without cameras rolling during engagements away from the spotlight.
William and Kate later reconciled and married at Westminster Abbey in April 2011. Neither Kensington Palace nor the couple have commented on the latest claims about their 2007 separation.
