Hailey Bieber might have just taken a playful but pointed shot at Scooter Braun, and fans are all over it.
The Rhode founder posted a goofy, exaggerated selfie to her Instagram Stories on Saturday. She used a filter that made her eyes and lips look cartoonishly distorted. What really got people talking was the song she chose to play over it: Mariah Carey’s “Obsessed,” which is often seen as the ultimate clapback anthem. The timing seemed anything but random. Her post went up shortly after Braun publicly praised Justin Bieber’s new album, Swag, on his own Instagram.
Scooter Braun, who managed Justin for years before their split last year, had nothing but glowing words for the pop star’s latest work. He called the album “beautiful, raw, and truly him,” saying he was proud and impressed and that he was genuinely enjoying the music.
Braun even pointed out “Daisies” as a track that stood out to him. While his words sounded supportive, Hailey’s not-so-subtle post right after had many fans raising eyebrows and guessing that it was directed at Braun.
All of this happened just days after news broke that Justin had reached a major financial settlement with Braun. Reports said Justin agreed to pay $26 million he allegedly owed Braun, plus 50 percent of another $11 million for unpaid commissions. With all this in the background, Hailey’s post using Mariah Carey’s famous anthem about someone being obsessed created plenty of speculation.
