Justin Bieber has fans scratching their heads again with his social media activity. On Thursday, he changed his long-time Instagram handle from @justinbieber to @lilbieber, according to Page Six.
The 31-year-old pop star didn’t explain why he made the change or even mention it. But earlier in the week, he did post black-and-white photos of himself cuddling his and Hailey Bieber’s 10-month-old son, Jack, with the caption “lil bieber” and a lock emoji, which may have hinted at the new username.
Fans on social media were quick to joke about the name change. Some made fun of it by saying Justin “thinks he’s a rapper,” while others guessed he might have a mixtape on the way. One person compared it to Britney Spears’ playful Instagram name, and another told Hailey to “come get her man.”
Justin briefly used the handle @bizzle back in 2014, so this isn’t the first time he’s switched things up.
Justin and Hailey have been together on and off since 2016, got married in 2018, and renewed their vows six years later while waiting for their baby boy. Jack was born in August 2020.
Despite rumors that their marriage is on the rocks fueled by Justin’s recent social media posts, Hailey told Vogue they’re still doing well.
Justin has shared a lot on Instagram lately, sometimes posting about “transactional” relationships and getting the “silent treatment.” On Thursday alone, he made 12 posts, including one of Jack sitting in a cardboard box full of balls.
Fans also noticed he keeps referencing a line from when he yelled at paparazzi earlier this month, telling them he was “standing on business.” During that outburst, he also said he loves his wife and family and was upset at being provoked.
