Sean Ono Lennon, the son of John Lennon, recently opened up about his relationship with Julian Lennon. During an interview on Q1043 New York, he talked about the historical tensions between Julian and Yoko Ono via Rock Celebrities.
He was asked directly regarding his relationship with Julian and Sean highlighted their mutual respect and admiration. He acknowledged that while his mother and Julian had disagreements in the past, those tensions have not affected the younger generation’s bond.
“Well, you know Julian and I have always gotten along. He was my hero for sure for most of my life and he still is someone I look up to,” Sean said. “You know, he’s had such a successful music career in a way that I never have and I really admire him and respect him for that.”
Sean further explained that family dynamics, though sometimes difficult, do not define the relationships between the second generation of Beatles families.
“Obviously, him and my mom had disagreements in the past, but you know, that’s how families are. Like every family. They also loved each other. My mother always loved Julian, you know, he was her child in the way that my dad said that Kyoko was his child,” he continued. “They had a tough period for sure. But I think it’s that way with me and Julian.”
Sean then concluded by highlighting the common ground shared among the younger generation of Beatles families. He suggested that past tensions have not carried forward to their generation.
“I think we have more in common than we have different between us and there’s definitely a kind of brotherhood and sisterhood between the families,” Sean said. “We’re all just happy to be able to know each other, to get to know each other.”
