George Lazenby, who played James Bond in On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, is now 85 and living with dementia in a care home in Los Angeles. His ex-wife, former tennis star Pam Shriver, visits him almost every day and recently shared their story in an emotional article.
Shriver, 62, said their relationship had many ups and downs, especially after their divorce in 2011. But now they have grown close again. She said, “We see each other every day. We say ‘I love you’ every time we hang up the phone.”
Lazenby’s dementia mainly affects his short-term memory. Still, he often talks about his younger days, like moving to London in the 1960s with only a few dollars or dating in his hometown in Australia. Shriver said he has become gentler over the years and still feels like himself.
Shriver has power of attorney for Lazenby and moved him to a care facility in Pacific Palisades in late 2023. When wildfires hit Los Angeles in January, they had to evacuate quickly, but his caregiver made sure he stayed safe.
The couple has three children together: George Jr. (21), Kaitlin (19), and Samuel (19). Lazenby also has other children from earlier relationships.
Shriver said their kids helped keep them in contact. Now, she wants to make the most of this time with him. “If there is one lesson here,” she said, “it’s that relationships can heal. Even after everything, we found our way back.”
A family friend said that George, who once loved cars and adventure, now enjoys peace and routine. He seems happy.
From his early life in rural Australia to becoming James Bond and now living quietly in Los Angeles, George Lazenby’s life has come full circle. His story is one of bold choices, unforgettable moments, and quiet strength in his final chapter.
