Greta Van Fleet were defended by guitar teacher Tyler Larson of Music as Win in a new video, saying their alleged ripping off of Led Zeppelin is not illegal. Greta Van Fleet ‘Refuse’ To Ripoff Robert Plant?

“Musically speaking, when did it become illegal to wear your influences on your sleeve? Here’s my question to people who have a problem with Greta Van Fleet and just put them in a box without any individual thought of their own…Have you listened to the new album? It just came out… My guess is – probably not.”

He played the “Built By Nations” guitar solo, and stated, “I mean, if you’re a fan of rock music and you’re not excited that that guitar solo is in a song by a band who is on the top of the Spotify Rock Chart and sometimes on the top of the Spotify charts themselves and is relevant in the world we live in today… I don’t know what to tell you.”

He said about the “Heat Above” vocals by Josh Kiszka, “You hear those vocals, right? And the arrangement of the music – this isn’t some guy writing music for this band as has been insinuated, and the band just performing it. They’re writing this music, this is an instrumental break in a song like a real bridge in a rock song. And those vocals – that’s some of the best vocal work I’ve heard.

And I hate to blow smoke up these kids’ asses. [Chuckles] Because they are in their early 20s, but they seem grounded enough to take criticism as well as praise. That voice is an untamed stallion. Just imagine where this is gonna go.” Ultimate-Guitar transcribed his remarks.
