Britney Spears is pushing back against a claim from the IRS that says she owes more than $600,000 in unpaid taxes. According to legal documents obtained by TMZ, the IRS sent Britney a Notice of Deficiency for the 2021 tax year, saying she still owes a large amount of money.
Britney strongly disagrees. In her own legal filing, she says the IRS made serious mistakes and that she does not owe them anything at all. She claims the tax bill is based on incorrect calculations.
One of the main issues involves income connected to Shiloh Standing Inc., a company that was reportedly created by her father, Jamie Spears, shortly after Britney’s conservatorship began. Britney says the IRS wrongly adjusted her share of income from that company by more than $1.3 million, which inflated what they say she owes.
She also says the IRS made another mistake by incorrectly changing her tax deductions by more than $334,000. On top of that, Britney is disputing a penalty of about $120,000 that the IRS added, saying it should never have been applied.
In her petition, Britney insists she paid what she owed for 2021 and says she has records to prove it. She is asking the court to review the case and officially rule that there was no error in her original tax filing and that she owes the IRS nothing.
