Brian Steel, the well-known attorney who represented rapper Young Thug in a high-profile RICO case, is now looking to join Sean “Diddy” Combs’ legal defense team. Steel recently filed a motion in the Southern District of New York, asking for permission to be added to the team defending Combs against serious federal charges.
Steel, based in Georgia, gained national attention in 2024 when he was held in contempt of court during Young Thug’s trial for refusing to disclose a confidential source. That contempt conviction was later overturned by the Georgia Supreme Court, which Steel noted in his April 15 filing. He emphasized that he was “wrongfully ordered” to reveal privileged information.
If approved, Steel would join a defense team already led by notable attorneys Marc Agnifilo and Teny Geragos.
Combs is facing multiple federal charges, including sex trafficking, racketeering, and transportation for prostitution, stemming from a September 2024 indictment. Since then, additional charges have been added in superseding indictments. Combs has pleaded not guilty to all allegations.
He has remained in custody at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn since his arrest, as judges have repeatedly denied bail due to concerns over potential witness tampering.
Steel’s potential addition to the case brings further legal firepower to Combs’ defense as his trial approaches in May.
