Just one day before closing arguments in Sean “Diddy” Combs’ federal criminal trial in New York City, prosecutors made a big change. They’ve decided to drop some parts of the case, including attempted kidnapping, attempted arson, and helping with sex trafficking.
In a letter to Judge Arun Subramanian, prosecutors said they’re doing this to make the case simpler for the jury, as the judge requested. But it also shows they may not have had enough proof for those parts of the case.
For example, they seemed to struggle to prove that Diddy kidnapped former employee Capricorn Clark, who was allegedly taken to a building and forced to take a lie detector test after jewelry went missing. They also had a hard time proving that he kidnapped singer Cassie at a London hotel.
Another big surprise is that they dropped the claim that Diddy blew up Kid Cudi’s car. While this was a major accusation, they never showed solid proof that Diddy was responsible.
All of these dropped claims were part of the larger racketeering (RICO) case against Diddy, which still continues.
As for the sex trafficking charges, prosecutors are not dropping them completely. They are only removing the part about “helping” with the crime. The main charges still stand.
