Tyson Beckford has shared details about a past altercation that he says nearly turned deadly. The incident involved people connected to Sean “Diddy” Combs.
In a recent interview on The Breakfast Club, Beckford talked about what happened outside a tattoo shop in New York City. He said he was talking to a friend when fashion stylist Groovey Lew, who was closely tied to Diddy and Bad Boy Records at the time, approached him and asked if he would take a photo with a woman. Beckford said he was in the middle of a conversation and told Lew to wait. Things quickly escalated into a heated argument and then a fight.
Beckford said Lew hit him, causing a head injury that required six stitches. An NYPD officer stopped to check the situation, but when both men said it wasn’t serious, the officer drove off. Beckford said that shortly after, Lew returned with Diddy and several others from his crew. Outnumbered and alone, Beckford said his friend disappeared and he went to his car to grab a Mossberg shotgun from his Land Cruiser.
He said he warned them that he only had five shells and told Diddy he would be the first to get hit if things got worse. No shots were fired and the situation ended without more violence, but Beckford said it came close to being a tragedy.
When asked if he had made peace with Diddy, Beckford said he hasn’t seen him in years but believes Diddy knows not to cross him. He also said there were more issues later when he sued Diddy after being shorted on a modeling contract with the Sean John clothing brand. Beckford said he didn’t fit the image Diddy wanted and added that karma had played its part.
