Beckham Misses Trump White House Visit
Sir David Beckham did not attend Inter Miami’s White House reception with US President Donald Trump this week, with a report saying the club co-owner had a prior engagement in Europe with his wife, Ms Victoria Beckham.
Inter Miami’s players and staff visited Washington, with Lionel Messi and team-mates meeting President Trump to mark the club’s MLS Cup triumph, Express.co.uk reported.
The appearance drew attention after President Trump addressed the media during the reception and spoke beyond football, while some members of the delegation were said to have been expecting the visit to focus on the sport. Inter Miami head coach Mr Javier Mascherano said the squad believed they would “only talk about football” and described the visit as part of a long-standing tradition for championship teams.
Beckham has maintained a high public profile in recent months, including a royal engagement in which he was seen becoming emotional during a meeting with King Charles.
Mascherano said the White House visit had been planned weeks in advance to coincide with the team being in Washington. President Trump also praised Messi’s career during remarks at the reception, referencing the forward’s trophy haul and impact since joining the Florida club.
