CPS Gives Advice in Prince Andrew Probe
Prosecutors have confirmed they are now supporting two police forces investigating Prince Andrew and Lord Peter Mandelson over allegations linked to their past association with the late financier Jeffrey Epstein. The update comes as the inquiries continue following the pair’s arrests last month on suspicion of misconduct in public office, with both men understood to have been released under investigation.
The National reported that the Crown Prosecution Service said it is providing “early investigative advice” to the Metropolitan Police Service in relation to a 72-year-old man and to Thames Valley Police in relation to a 66-year-old man, adding it remains ready to support the investigations if needed.
The article said the investigations concern allegations that sensitive government information may have been passed to Epstein after his 2008 conviction. A CPS spokesperson said the service would “continue to liaise as requested” with the Metropolitan Police, while confirming separate advice is being provided to Thames Valley Police.
The development adds to renewed scrutiny of the Duke of York’s position in the Royal Family, following earlier reporting that Queen Elizabeth was allegedly worried about Andrew’s ties to Epstein as the scandal unfolded and the Palace sought to manage its impact.
Police inquiries can involve prosecutors at an early stage before any charging decision is made, and the CPS update suggests investigators are continuing to assess potential next steps as the case progresses.
