Britney Spears has responded to her ex-husband Kevin Federline’s claims about her parenting made in his new memoir, You Thought You Knew, which comes out on October 21.
In the book, Federline describes their marriage and co-parenting relationship, claiming that one of their sons once woke up to find Spears holding a knife. He also alleges that she drank wine while pregnant and used cocaine while breastfeeding.
Spears addressed these claims on X, calling her ex-husband’s behavior “gaslighting” and “hurtful.” She said she has always wanted a strong relationship with her sons, Jayden and Preston, but feels disrespected and shut out. Spears explained that she rarely sees her sons, saying one has only seen her for 45 minutes in five years and the other just four times. She said the ball in their court to see her more often.
She also called out Federline’s book, saying, “Those white lies in that book are making money, and I’m the one who gets hurt.” Spears added that she’s been trying to live a quiet, private life and that people shouldn’t believe the tabloids about her mental health.
Federline told The Hollywood Reporter that his sons support him sharing his story and still talk to their mother occasionally. He said he just wants Spears to be healthy and present in their children’s lives.
Spears’ team responded earlier, saying Federline is once again trying to profit off her now that his child support payments have ended, and that Britney only cares about her children’s well-being.
