Britney Spears ‘terrified’ of jail ahead of May court date
Britney Spears is said to be fearful of potential jail time as she prepares to appear in court on 4 May, following her recent arrest in Los Angeles on suspicion of driving under the influence. The pop star, 44, is due to face a judge after police pulled her over earlier this month amid claims she was driving erratically at high speeds.
Metro reported that a friend of the singer said she is “terrified” of the consequences, adding that she knows “there’s a potential for jail time” and fears people will argue she should be placed back under a conservatorship.
The report said Spears was arrested on 4 March near her home in Thousand Oaks after an officer allegedly saw her swerving between lanes. Police reportedly took her to hospital for tests to determine her blood alcohol level and whether drugs were in her system, before she was booked into a cell and later released.
Spears previously lived under a court-ordered conservatorship that ended in 2021, after years of legal oversight that began following her public mental health crisis in 2008. In earlier Britpop News reporting on the same case, she was described as “devastated” as she prepared for the court process, with friends stressing how strongly she values her independence.
Metro also reported that police allegedly found Spears in possession of the prescription stimulant Adderall and that it is being tested for possible contamination with illegal narcotics. The outlet said a conviction could lead to a driving ban, while the presence of illegal drugs could expose her to a prison sentence.
Spears has previously rejected speculation she has an alcohol or drug problem, writing in her 2023 memoir The Woman in Me that she never had a drinking issue. Her representatives did not immediately comment on the latest claims.
