Book Claims William Urged Andrew’s Royal Exit
Prince William urged senior royals to push Prince Andrew out of the royal family in the aftermath of the Duke of York’s 2019 BBC Newsnight interview, according to claims in a forthcoming biography. The allegations, published overnight, place renewed focus on internal tensions within the monarchy over how to handle the fallout from Andrew’s links to the late financier Jeffrey Epstein.
The Independent reported that the book alleges Prince William wanted Andrew forced out “before the rot set in” and urged action from King Charles and Queen Elizabeth after further details emerged about Andrew’s relationship with Epstein.
The biography is said to be written by Russell Myers, the Mirror’s royal editor, and includes comments attributed to palace sources. One quoted source claims the Prince of Wales believed “there was absolutely no upside in Andrew being protected”, while another says William’s view was that Andrew should not be near the family “under any circumstances”.
The new claims come amid continued scrutiny over the monarchy’s handling of the scandal, with previous Britpop News coverage examining how Prince William has sought to distance himself from Andrew as public attention has intensified.
Buckingham Palace and Andrew’s representatives were contacted by the newspaper, according to the report, while the controversy remains tied to the Duke of York’s loss of royal roles and titles following wider developments connected to the Epstein case.
